NORTH ELTHAM WANDERERS LIFE MEMBERS At the discretion of the Committee of the Club, life membership of the North Eltham Wanderers Cricket Club can be awarded to those members, who in the opinion of the elected committee have demonstrated outstanding, long, continuous and dedicated service to the club in one or more capacities. Nominations for new life members must be made in writing to the Committee of the Club before the end of the current season. In its history the North Eltham Wanderers have awarded Life Membership to the following servants of the Club. Keith Howarth (elected 1986) Co-founder of the NEWCC and life blood of the club for many years. Keith stood on the Committee for 15 years, six as President and eight as Secretary. He played 84 games for the club he loved dearly, scoring more than 1000 runs. He is fondly remembered for his passion for cricket and fierce loyalty to the Wanderers name. Keith passed away in 1996. Colin MacDonald (elected 1986) Co-founder of the NEWCC and along with Keith and Alan Watt, was the driving force behind the fledgling Club for more than a decade. Quietly spoken yet fiercely determined, Colin was Treasurer for 13 years. He played 150 games and made 3,328 runs as a team captain and player. Colin passed away in 1997. John Crossman (elected 1992)
John has played in excess of 180 games for the Wanderers, scored nearly 4000 runs and taken more than 250 wickets. He has coached the club in two separate decades, won five batting and bowling awards, led many teams as captain and served three terms as Secretary and two as Vice-President during many years of service on the Committee. Gary Stone (elected 1992) Gary played 90 games for the Club, scored 1,656 runs and took 222 wickets, winning the First XI bowling on one occasion. He served on the Committee throughout the 1980’s and early 90’s. Jim Myatt (elected 1992) Jim played more than 100 games for the Club and took 176 wickets. He served on the Committee in the 1980’s and into the early 90’s. Alex Argentino (elected 1994) ‘Axe’ achieved everything as a player and administrator of the Club. Two years as President, one as Secretary, several as Club Coach and Captain, premiership player, three times Club Champion and six First XI batting and bowling awards are testament to his talent and commitment to the Club. He played 147 games, amassed almost 4000 runs and took 136 wickets. Wayne Philpots (elected 1994) Wayne played 140 games and took 187 wickets for the Club as a team captain and player. A three time bowling award winner, Wayne served on the Committee for many years, one term as Vice-President and two as Secretary. For many years he served as the Club’s official DVCA Delegate. Alan Watt (elected 1996) Co-founder of the NEWCC and inaugural President of the Club, a position he held for four years. Alan played in the early years of the Club, taking 128 wickets and won three team bowling awards. He was posthumously awarded Life Membership in 1996. Phillip Harris (elected 1998)
Phill has been a Wanderer for more than 20 years. Rapidly approaching 200 games and 5000 runs, Phill has served the Club admirably on and off the field. A multiple batting award winner and various statistical record holder many times over, Phill has served the Committee on numerous occasions in many varied capacities. Steven Leighton (elected 2001) Steve played 118 games and scored nearly 3000 runs in a career spanning more than 20 years. A Club Champion, premiership player and three times batting and bowling award winner, Steve served invaluable terms as Club President and Vice-President. Mike Fordred (elected 2004) Mike or ‘Bernie’ as he is better known, has served eight consecutive years as Club Secretary and one as Junior Secretary in a twelve year membership. A two-time premiership player and team captain, Mike only played 33 games in a short but successful career that bloomed late at the Wanderers. Darren Morter (elected 2004) A Wanderer for close to 15 years, Darren is a multiple batting and bowling award winner, premiership player and a captain of the Second XI for many years. Darren has taken in excess of 250 wickets and scored more than 1500 runs in his 100 plus game career. He has served on the Committee on numerous occasions and in many different and highly-valued capacities. Brian Stieg (elected 2005) Dale Robertson (elected 2007) Alastair Mann (elected 2008) |
